The Verizon FiOS app enabled me to catch up on all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls prior to the release of the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls which was made available on Black Friday.

The Netflix revival of the Gilmore Girls consists of four 90-minute episodes.  I have been streaming whenever I have a few minutes and wherever I can.

Cousins Reunion!

Our cousin’s reunion took place this past weekend in North West New Jersey.  Our cousins Mary Catherine and husband Bob were our hosts.

We all knew we needed to bring our appetites because Mary Catherine had been cooking and baking all week posting all her creations on Instagram and Facebook.  She is a culinary pied piper in our family.

Mary Catherine has a deep love for keeping old Italian family recipes and traditions alive, as well as starting new cherished ones. She loves creating meals that are  simple and delicious while bringing family and friends together to her table.

Creating a welcoming atmosphere is another gift Mary Catherine possesses.  We used to call her our Martha Stewart but we now believe she has far surpassed Martha.  We all have encouraged her to finish writing her cookbook and share with the world her fine taste and hospitality.

How food is experienced has everything to do with the decor, with the rituals surrounding the meal, with the company, and with the experience.  Food is drama, the table the stage, and the cook is the tamer and hero.

When we finally settled down to the table the conversations were all over the map literally! We come from all walks of life and continents.  Lots of laughing, story telling and catching up.

Happy Anniversary With MotoZ Moto Mods

Featured

A few weeks ago I became a grateful recipient of the new MotoZ Droid Smartphone with three amazing Moto Mod accessories and a storage case!

MotoZ Bundle Katie Shea Design VZWbuzz

Most intriguing to me was the idea of having a projector in my pocket that could project videos and photos up to 70 inches wide onto any flat surface! The concept of having the capacity at a moment’s notice to present a project, idea, document, image, video or view a movie with one or more people was exploding my mind!

I wanted to use the projector for something very special.  I decided to produce a 33rd wedding anniversary video for my husband.

While editing my anniversary video I used the JBL Soundbooth Speaker to play the video through for a preview before surprising my husband.

I played the video on our bedroom ceiling for our 33rd Wedding Anniversary with my Moto Insta-Share Moto Mod projector.

Preparing all the images for this very special video spent lots of battery time. Editing images for hours really tested the MotoZ’s Moto Mod Power Pack Battery life. I went for almost a whole day without having to charge up my smartphone.

I have more creative ideas to use my MotoZ’s Moto Mods in my work and my everyday life.  Stay Tuned!!!

Chipping My Yorkie With A Tile! Thanks Verizon.

Do I Really Have to Wear a Tile VZWBuzz Image by KatieSheaDesign Kathleen DeCosmo

My Yorkie cannot resist an open door or gate. She loves to run down the hill from my home and sometimes stops in to visit a neighbor. I never know which neighbor.  Now with this tiny Bluetooth tracker the #Tile, I just grab my Note5 smartphone, bring up my #Tile App and tap “Find”.  The little square tile that I attached to my Yorkie’s collar can now help me locate the little feline socialite without having to walk around the neighborhood calling her name. The music you will hear on this Video is emitting from the Tile on her collar. You can attach the Tile to anything you want to find and keep track of.

I Guess I Have to wear the tile image by katieSheaDesign Kathleen DeCosmo VZWBuzz ad

How the Tile Works:

Ring Your Things
Ring lost items just like you’d call a lost phone. If your Tile is within the 100-foot Bluetooth range, it will play a loud tune until you find it.

Ring Your Phone
Can’t find your phone? Press any one of your Tiles to make your lost phone ring—even if it’s on silent.
Tiny speakers let out a 90-decibel melody that’s easy to hear—even if it’s under something or in another room.

If you lost your phone far away, finding it is still easy.  Log into the Tile website app to see its last known location, to make it ring, or to send a lock-screen message to the friendly folks who might find it.  Expand your search using all Tile apps in the Tile Community.  This feature is 100% private, so no one knows you’re looking for a lost item but you.

Thanks Verizon for sending me a #Tile that fits my lifestyle! More About the #Tile I received from @verizon read HERE

The Commuters

The Commuters image by KatieSheaDesign 2016 VZWbuzz BetterMatters Verizon

Upon entering an unfamiliar entrance into an empty Ninth Avenue area of Port Authority Bus Terminal I stumbled upon three tired commuters waiting by a departure door for a bus to bring them back to New Jersey.

A very unexpected treat to find a  great piece of art  by Sculptor George Segal.  The name of the sculptures “The Commuters”.  The sculptures are cast in bronze with white patina.

The piece’s interpretation is that the artist was paying homage to the brave masses who pass through Port Authority Bus Terminal each morning and evening, month after month and year after year.

Even in one of the most congested and busiest  transportation hubs in New York City,  I was able to have full wireless service with my Verizon.  #BetterMatters #collab #VZWBuzz

A Life Changing Decision

Yes No Maybe Decisions By Katie Shea Design #SwitchersRemorse

When I was three and a half years I would pray every night that I could go to school with my big sister who had just started kindergarten. I was sad that I could not go with her.  We always did everything together so I could not understand why I could not just go and sit next to her in class.

I cried every day when we dropped her off to school and I told my mother that I was going to school with my sister the very next fall.  In the early 1960’s there was not any pre-k or nursery schools that she could have signed me up for to quench my thirst to go to school.

My mother started teaching me kindergarten at home to prepare me for her very bold move of registering me when I was four years old to kindergarten in the school my sister was attending.

The day my mother marched me up to the school for registration was a life changing decision. I got a glimpse of a strong-minded mother trying hard to meet her relentless four-year old’s educational hunger.  She was determined to get me into school and finally made a deal with the principal.  I had to do well in the first two months or she would have to take me out of kindergarten and start me again in the following September.

Fast forward thirteen years later.  I started my college career in community college at 17 years old and became a store manager for Waldenbooks at 18 years old.  I was working a full-time job and going to school to earn enough money to transfer to a four-year college.

I put in my applications for various four-year colleges just to see where I stood for the following school year.  To my surprise, I was accepted to all of them and I would not be able to commute but have to pay for a dorm in addition to my tuition.

I really had the bug to go away to college and immerse myself in my education, but how was I going to afford it I asked myself.  I prayed for answers.  Between my own savings and if I took out an educational loan I would be able to make it I concluded.

I quickly applied for a federal loan and it was issued rather quickly.  I accepted at a college that was about an hour away from my home.  I was a little late to the party (since I was a transfer student) applying for student housing but was told that something would open up for me.

While all these fast pace decisions were being made I kept pushing back this gnawing feeling of uneasiness and discomfort.  I decided to ignore what I now know as “intuition” and kept on course to move to my new college.

It was two days until the semester was going to begin, and I still had not been able to acquire a place to live.  I even considered commuting, but my parents pointed out that my ride would be a rough one through very deserted areas.  My car or so I say my “jalopy” would not be able to sustain a consistent, long distance commute.

I am not a quitter and never had quit anything in my life.  I had no other choice but to not attend that semester considering all the circumstances.  I had regretted all the time and energy that decision had taken out of me just to end up not attending anyway. I had made a life changing decision unbeknownst to me.

Now, what was I going to do about that student loan check ready to get deposited into my bank account???   I walked into the bank and handed them back the check.  They were extremely confused and thrown off kilter.  I was told that nobody had ever returned a student loan check to them and they really didn’t know what to do with it!  Well I guess they figured it out.

Less than a year later I had moved to NYC working as a Store Manager for the Gap Stores and met the person I have been married to for almost 32 years.

What I learned is that my ability to press on is great, but it does not mean I cannot change my decisions.  Changing my decisions for good reasons is not quitting.

Returning the student loan was one of the hardest things I had to do at that time of my life but it definitely set me sailing towards my future.  A wonderful husband, three beautiful children and a life that has been more than I could ever wish for!

Using Editing Apps With Smartphone Photography

Featured

Since becoming a Verizon Wireless Influencer and Brand Ambassador in the #VZWBuzz Lifestyle Program,  I have been afforded many the opportunity to test numerous smartphones.  I am currently testing a Verizon Droid Turbo and also shooting images with an iPhone6 as well this summer.

Today on the #VZWBuzz weekly chat we will be discussing Smartphone Photography.

Smartphone Photography is the best part of testing any of the smartphones that have come my way over the  years.

I am a Content Creator, Social Media Director, Influencer, Brand Strategist and Digital Correspondent and I have a smartphone or two in my hands almost all the time.

My photography creativity has been spawned because of the fantastic apps that are available to edit your images in ways you could never dream of before.

The favorite apps for editing my smartphone photos are Snapseed, Aviary, PS Express, Instagram and Adobe Lightroom. There are times that I will use all of them to edit a particular photo because of the many filters available in each app.

The following are some smartphone images that have been edited by one or more of the editing apps mentioned above.

On The Heels of National Wine Day: Who Could Use This Today??

Scientists create enzyme that could lead Image by Katie Shea Design

A new enzyme that enhances the health benefits of wine and prevents the onset of headaches and nausea has been developed by a team of US-based researchers.  Read More HERE.

Great news for the wine industry and wine lovers!

Many could use this magic bullet enzyme included in wine, especially if one overdid it a bit for National Wine Day!

Scientists have developed a “genome knife” that enables them to do “precise metabolic engineering” of microbes, including the strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that are used in the production of wine, beer, and other fermented foods and beverages. Using this “knife,” they can increase all of the pluses of drinking wine (i.e., the health benefits) while also mitigating some of the minuses—meaning the woeful physical consequences. Winos, rejoice!”

Hopefully by next National Wine Day some could be enjoying the benefits of this new scientific discovery with no worry of a hangover!
